Color.Partners are involved in the development of products for the Hair Care Industry which includes both equipment and formulations for professional and retail use.
Hair coloring is a massive global market dominated by L’Oreal, P&G, Coty Inc. and HFC Gmbh. It is a chemical process and the achievement of the desired result requires an accurate assessment of the customers’ existing hair. This assessment includes the base color/s, translucence and reflectance. Both translucence and reflectance affect the “appearance” (perception) of the colour.
Color.Partners designed, developed and patented a device for the measurement of any colour. The original intended users of this small handheld device were hairdressers and hair salons, product retail outlets and private individuals with a hair colouring need.
In the course of this process the Color.Partners Team noted its color measurement device had application far beyond the confines of the hair coloring market. Further, whilst there are existing devices which match colors these do not efficiently identify the color nor do they address transparence, translucence or reflectance. Instead they compare the color sampled to reference physical color charts.
Across all industries a market leading reference system is produced by Pantone. This is extremely limiting in that the Pantone system catalogues around 8000 colors out of several million colors in the generally perceivable spectrum.
It was the potential commercial scale of the color matching market that motivated the Color.Partners Team to commercially develop further inter-related aspects of color analysis, matching, comparison and communication technology. Patent Applications were filed in mid July 2016 and granted in 2018
